Mass Deployment of Offshore Mud Skips Facilitates Compliant Disposal of Drilling Waste

Offshore Mud Skips compliant with the DNV 2.7-1 offshore standard have been officially put into service at a drilling platform in the Bohai Sea, providing a compliant solution for the disposal of waste such as drilling mud and cuttings generated during offshore oil and gas operations.

This customized Mud Skip is constructed from offshore-grade anti-corrosion steel. Equipped with a sealed discharge port and anti-leakage coating, the skip can securely contain waste mud produced by drilling operations, preventing leakage and marine pollution. It is also integrated with lifting lugs to meet the requirements for rapid transfer by platform cranes. Furthermore, it can be directly connected to onshore environmental protection treatment equipment, forming a complete closed-loop process of "offshore collection - onshore disposal".

The application of Mud Skips not only meets the regulatory requirements for drilling waste management specified in the Marine Environmental Protection Law but also reduces the operational risks associated with manual handling and transfer. Currently, this equipment has been promoted across 3 drilling platforms in the Bohai Sea and will be gradually rolled out to oil and gas operation areas in the South China Sea.
