DNV Releases the 2025 New Certification Regulation for Offshore Containers, Adding Dual Evaluation Dimensions of Intelligence and Green Development (20 December)
Det Norske Veritas (DNV) officially issued the 2025 Certification Guidelines for Offshore Containers on 20 December. On the basis of the original requirements for structural strength, lifting safety and anti-corrosion performance, the new regulation has added two core evaluation dimensions: intelligent monitoring and green low-carbon compliance. The key requirements of the new regulation are as follows:
Intelligent offshore containers shall be integrated with a remote condition monitoring system to support real-time transmission of data including salt spray exposure, vibration and inclination angle;
Green offshore equipment shall meet the carbon footprint standard of ≤ 50kg CO₂/ton·km, with priority given to the adoption of recyclable steel and water-based anti-corrosion coatings;
Explosion-proof containers (suitable for Zone 2 hazardous areas) are required to pass the upgraded flameproof performance test certified to ATEX 137.
The new regulation will take effect on 1 March 2026. Products certified in compliance with the regulation will be awarded the DNV Smart & Green certification mark, enabling enterprises to quickly access the high-end offshore engineering markets in Europe and North America.
